Henny Schouwstra wanted to open a neighbourhood shop in Amsterdam, selling candy, party products, flowers and small gifts. A nowaday's store, mixing classic 'grandmother's style' elements with contemporary, where f.e. candy of all kinds (a.o. sugar free, organic, natural and even halal approved) would still be sold per unit.
The shop's location in the culturally diverse East of the city, brought Henny to the name Suiker & Feest, translated as Sugar & Party, but foremost a referral to the islamic "Suikerfeest" (Sugar Holiday) at the end of Ramadan. The name with a threefold meaning, should make the shop attractive for everybody in the area and promote the blend of cultures.
